The Arctic Chalet can offer you rental vehicles at the most economical rate available in Inuvik.
Our vehicles are older but well-maintained by our mechanic. Windshields are often cracked or somewhat damaged due to the gravel roads in our area such as the Dempster Highway and the Inuvik Tuktoyaktuk Highway.
If you would like us to drive you to Tuk please inquire. We run tours to Tuk and they include information about the pingos, a tour of the hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk, a visit to the ocean and a toe dipping/swimming certificate. A cultural side tour may also be available with a traditional lunch, but is only available in conjunction with the full day tour that we offer.
The fee for dropping a vehicle off at the airport is $100 and you will need to call the office to let us know you are doing that. Airport Shuttles to the rental office at the Arctic Chalet are available for $40 for 1 person. $10 per person for additional people. Please give us your time of arrival when you book the vehicle and call us from the airport once you have landed. The office number is 867.777.3535 or if you have Judi's cell phone you can call that number. Airport shuttles are available Sunday through Friday, but are not available on Saturdays. NOTE: If you can't get through to the office or on Judi's cell when you arrive please take a taxi to the Arctic Chalet.

How to book a vehicle

We will need the following information:
- Credit card number
- Expiry date
- Telephone number with area code
- Email address
Our answering machine (not in a public area) is confidential so you can leave this information there if we are not in to take your call.
Please note that your reservation will not be guaranteed until you receive an email from us confirming we have received all of the above information. Call to extend a reservation .
Office is closed on Saturdays, but cars can be dropped off after a rental anytime, even on Saturday.
Rental vehicles must be picked up and dropped off at the Arctic Chalet office at 25 Carn street
AFTER HOURS: If you require a vehicle after hours or early in the morning Sunday to Friday an extra call-out fee of $20 will be charged. Vehicles can be dropped off anytime without a fee.
OFFICE HOURS:
Sunday to Thursday 10 am to 6 pm.
Friday 10 am to 4 pm Closed Saturdays
CANCELLATION is 48 hours for daily rentals or 5 days for weekly. We need two weeks notice for longer rentals.
Truck Rental Rates
Truck Rentals
- $220 daily rate for 2 + days
- $250 daily rate for one day only
- For one day rentals we ask that you wash your rental before returning it. Daily rates Include100 free kilometres a day & 3rd party liability insurance.
- 25 cents for excess kilometres
- Before/After hours pickup and returns, the additional fee is $20
- $25 per day for our damage waiver (optional)
- $5000 is the damage deductible.
- Renter pays gas expense.
- All trucks are gas powered.
- The refuelling service charge is $40 plus the cost of gas at the pump.
- Our trucks are non-smoking vehicles.
- A $300 charge will apply for smoking in a vehicle.
- Extra fees up to $100 may be required to remove heavy mud on the exterior of the vehicle or for cleaning a very dirty interior upon return.
- We will try to meet you at the airport if you request a shuttle. We need your ETA.
- Airport shuttles are $40 each for 1 person plus $10 per additional person. Airport shuttles are not available on Friday evenings or on Saturdays anytime. For after hours call-outs, Sunday through Thursday, we will add $20 to the shuttle price.
- Sorry! No rentals are available on Saturday when the office is closed. Cars can be dropped off anytime.
- You can return a vehicle to the airport for an extra fee of $150.
- If you do not show up at the office to pick up your rental, a two day penalty fee (the daily rate X 2) will be charged to your credit card.
- *NOTE: The penalty charge for losing a car key is $500.
- *Important! Check your vehicle for damages or any unacceptable conditions BEFORE leaving the rental location.
- If you run over any sharp object or get a flat tire for any reason be prepared to replace the tire if it is not repairable. We will take normal wear and tear into consideration. Be prepared to pay for tire repairs.
- Our vehicles, as is the case with most vehicles that operate in our area, do have some windshield damages. We do not change the windshield or charge you for replacing it after each rental if it gets damaged. We will only charge you for the damages that you incur during your rental. This saves everyone money.
